Police say "the cause is being treated as unknown" but confirmed the arrest was made after officers remained at the scene throughout the day on Monday.

The person arrested has been released pending further inquiries by police.

Firefighters were called to the property at 9.13am and four fire engines and a height vehicle attended.

Crews wore breathing apparatus and hose reel jets of water to extinguish the flames and were at the scene for nearly four hours tackling the fire.

It is not yet known how badly damaged the semi-detached property was in the fire but the roof was clearly damaged by the blaze.

No injuries or casualties were reported.

Police initially attended to help manage a road closure to allow firefighters to deal with the blaze.

Lisa Tolladay, who lives near the house, said: "It was just after 9am and we heard shouting at the back of our house and saw the fire engine and the smoke coming out of the roof.

"We saw about four fire engines and they were using the ladder after they arrived.

"We didn't see any ambulance turn up, just the fire crews and police who closed off the road."
