Police are investigating after yobs set fire to a bench in a children's play area.

The bench and the surrounding soft matting were seriously damaged by the blaze at the play area in Rosebery Road.

Witnesses who saw the bench go up say it looked as though rubber matting used for safety flooring at the play area had been ripped up and stuffed in between the slats.

The fire started about 12pm today.
