Athletes excel in the sprints as Medway & Maidstone hold open meeting at Medway Park

There were some impressive times set on the 10-lane sprint straight as Medway and Maidstone AC held an open meeting at Medway Park.

Fastest in the 100m races was Junior Ejehu (10.83) of Woodford Green, followed by the host club’s Cleophus Joseph (11.16). Personal bests were achieved by Daniel Alexander (U-20M, 11.62) and Jasmin Salter (13.82), who was the fastest under-15 woman.

Chris Chancellor (22.35) of Invicta East Kent was the leading 200m runner with Joseph (22.92) third behind Alex Bell (22.62) of Dartford Harriers. Home athletes with bests included Reece Dimech (U-20M, 23.43) and Jane Angus (U-17W, 26.19) who won her race.

Ejehu won the 400m (49.85) to pave the way for a new best from Adam Gilbert (U-20M, 52.05). The 800m races saw a best for Lara Rose Tadman (U-17W, 2.29.34) with another winning performance.

There were useful victories in the sprint hurdles for Joanne Ware (U-15W, 12.78) and Francesca Baylis (U-20W, 16.31) in a new personal best.

Medway and Maidstone athletes dominated the high jump with wins for Connor McCormick (U-13M, 1.00), Joe Clark (U-15M, 1.65), Thomas Howlett (U-17M, 1.85 PB) and Dan Alexander (U-20M, 1.95 PB). Steve Lake (5.39) won the men’s long jump and Sophie Ayre (U-17W, 5.05) took the women’s.

Francis Lammas (U-17M, 10.55 PB) and Francesca Baylis (U-20W, 8.00) were winners in the shot and Alex Wharfe (U-20M, 43.47), Thomas Howlett (U-17M, 36.05) and Jessica Murphy (U-17W, 20.29) all succeeded with the javelin.
