The team behind a trio of award winning cafes is set to open another branch.

Cafe Nucleus, which has three hubs in Rochester and Chatham, is set to open in Rainham.

The existing venues are a mix of places to eat and drink, art galleries and studio space, and the new addition will be too.

It has not yet been confirmed where it will open, as Cafe Nucleus is still in negotiations with the owners of two different premises.

But director Aaron Telford hinted they would be moving into an older style building, similar to the restaurant in Rochester High Street.

He was able to confirm they will be located in Rainham High Street, rather than the shopping precinct and the new business will be over two floors, with a cafe on one floor and studio space above, as well as gallery space.

He added: "We are looking to open by autumn this year."

The former Barclays building on the corner of Rainham High Street is still empty, after the bank closed in October last year. And further along the High Street, the former Green Lion pub remains empty after plans to transform it into a microbrewery hit planning problems.

Cafe Nucleus has three existing locations - the continental-style Cafe Nucleus at the Nucleus Arts Centre in Chatham High Steeet, Cafe Nucleus Lounge in Military Road Chatham, Cafe Nucleus Rochester in the Conservancy Building in the High Street.

The team has a long list of accolades including Good Food Award Winner for Cafes, Taste of Kent Awards and Medway Food and Drink Awards.
