A 46-year-old golf club owner who was hit with a baseball bat during a robbery has spoken of his ordeal.

Frank Mahon was ambushed by two thugs as he left the clubhouse at Allhallows Golf Course, near Rochester, at around midnight last Saturday.

Mr Mahon was carrying the club’s takings after locking up. He and two friends were confronted by a man wearing a black balaclava and armed with a baseball bat.

The robber demanded money and when Mr Mahon refused he was hit around the legs and face with the bat.

Mr Mahon said: "My friend tried to help me but was held back by another robber who then hit him with a piece of wood."

The robbers escaped with about £2,000. Mr Mahon stressed: "I want them caught. They'll kill someone some day."

A police spokesman said: “The two attackers took steps to conceal their faces, but are thought to be about 5ft 10in and 6ft 3in.”

Detectives hope people with information about the incident will come forward. Anyone in the area at the time or who saw anything is asked to call police on 01634 884252, or Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
