Inquest opened into death of 61-year-old Gerard Marks of Northcote Road, Strood, who was found in the River Medway

The inquest into the death of a man found in the River Medway and Strood has been opened and adjourned.

The body of Gerard Marks was found when police were called to Knight Road on Friday.

The 61-year-old, who lived in Northcote Road, was found at Jane's Creek.

Officers were investigating the circumstances of his death, but are not treating his death as suspicious.

Police remained at the scene near to where his body was found for several hours from about 10.20am.

The inquest opening at the Archbishops Palace in Maidstone heard that the cause of death was immersion.
