Police and bomb squad in Strood after gas leak reveals weapon stash

The bomb squad has been called to after a number of weapons were found in a home by police.

Officers made the discovery during a visit to the property in Frindsbury Road, Strood, after receiving a report of a gas leak at about 12.35pm.

Experts are now working to establish if the weapons have been decommissioned.

A spokesman for the police said: "A gas leak was reported at the property and a number of weapons were located inside.

"Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) confirmed the weapons were decommissioned display items. No arrests were made."

Several properties have been evacuated while the gas leak is repaired and investigated.

The road was also sealed off, but has since reopened.
