Bus drivers for Arriva have called off their strike planned for Monday after reaching a settlement with management.

Workers picketed outside the firm's depot in Gillingham last Friday after failing to reach a compromise with the company.

In November around 210 Arriva drivers in Medway were balloted on whether to take industrial action over "unrealistic" timetables.

Buses ran as normal over the weekend but the drivers walked out again on Monday.

But a statement released today said: "Following successful negotiations between Arriva and Unite the Union, the proposed industrial action that had been planned for Monday December 14 will not now go ahead and our bus services will run as normal."

Unite had claimed drivers were being kept at the wheel for five-and-a-half hours at a time, with just four minutes' recovery time, and no chance to access to toilet facilities.
