Two windows were smashed in the attacks.

In a statement last night, the travel firm said: “It is with regret we have had to cancel our services to Luton Road. We do not wish for passengers to come into harm's way. Apologies for this.”

Today a spokesperson said: “On Wednesday, October 25, at 7.30pm three of our Arriva Kent buses were attacked in Luton Road, Chatham. Two of them had their windows smashed.

"Fortunately, there were no injuries, but this type of behaviour is dangerous and unacceptable.

"Services were diverted away from Luton Road for that evening, but returned to normal line of route first thing in the morning."

This is not the first time the company has decided to stop services because of damage and anti-social behaviour.

In June, bricks were hurled at buses on the same route and services were diverted.

Windows on two 166 services were smashed as they travelled down Luton Road on Saturday, June 24.

Last month, Arriva permanently scrapped the 190 route from Dering Way, Gravesend, after a window was smashed in the summer.

The decision was made following a number of attacks on the buses.
