Businesses have come forward to offer help after a string of stranger danger warnings.

Firms in Medway are offering a safe haven for youngsters if they feel threatened on the way to or from school.

It comes after several incidents where children have been approached.

A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnap after a schoolgirl was approached in Solomon Road, Rainham, on Wednesday last week.

At the end of last week, several Rainham schools issued a warning after pupils from Leigh Academy in the town were intimidated by a man in a red car.

And then on Monday, Walderslade Primary School in Chatham wrote to parents to say one of its pupils had been offered a lift to school by two men in a blue car in the Lordswood area.

Ellinor's Ice Cream, which stations its vans near schools at pickup times, has told parents that children can come to them if they feel unsafe.

In a social media post which has been shared online, the company said: "There have been warnings recently around local schools of suspicious incidents and behaviour of concern.

"Please let your children know we have ice cream vans at various school locations or in a street not far away.

"If anyone for any reason any child ever feels either threatened or concerned in anyway, approach one of our vans or feel free to make their way to a chime in the next street.

"We assure parents if approached our van operators will stay with their children and will not move until either a parent or police, if necessary, attends."

Glow Tanning Salon in Lordswood has also said they will offer a place for children to go.
