Firefighters issue warning after chimney fire at home in King Edward Road, Greenhithe

Firefighters have issued a warning to people to keep their chimneys clean after debris in one caught alight at a home in Greenhithe last night.

Crews were called to the property in King Edward Road at 7.35pm.

A spokesman for KFRS said: "There wasn't extensive damage but it needed to be attended by crews.

"We'd like to remind those that have open fires and log burners to have them swept regularly."

No one was injured.

Between 2010 and 2014, firefighters tackled almost 1,350 chimney fires in the county.

Chimney fires can cause structural damage and spread out of the top of the chimney into attic spaces and other homes.
