Crews tackle car fire in Elham Close, Twydall after vehicle bursts into flames

A car burst into flames and had to be put out by firefighters last night.

A crew from Chatham fire station were called to Elham Close, in Twydall at about 8.30pm and found a blue Volkswagen, Polo on fire.

The vehicle, which had been parked at the time the flames broke out, suffered at least 30% fire damage.

The crew spent about half an hour putting out the flames and making the scene safe.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the fire was not known.
