A care home has thought of a unique way to keep its residents entertained during lockdown.

Pembroke House has organised photo shoots to recreate iconic stills from famous films.

The photos were taken for a calendar which will raise money for the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust, which runs the home in Oxford Road, Gillingham.

It will feature residents Jack Fryatt and Brian Port's take on the Blue's Brothers, Joan Cresswell as Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's and Raymond Grose, who is also attempting to raise £1,000 for the poppy appeal, as Lawrence of Arabia.

Percy Cooper braved the wet conditions to recreate Gene Kelly's Don Lockwood from Signin' in the Rain and Robert Syborn showed his suave side by posing as the late Sean Connery as James Bond.

Wellbeing manager Laura Grant, who thought of the idea, said: "Residents had already shown an incredible flare for being creative.

"Recent projects include poetry competitions, creating art pieces to display within the home and attending regular drama classes.

"I wondered how residents would feel about embarking on a photography project where they were given the challenge to portray a character and how they would express this in front of the camera – the result of which was something rather special.

"When taking the photos I noticed how the behaviour of residents changed and many adopted their character's persona, reciting some of the famous lines from the film and using the props in the shoot.

"Some residents who were ordinarily quite shy became animated and completely engaged with the shoot and it was great for staff to see residents in a completely different light.

"We are proud to be supporting the well-being of our residents during the difficult times that Covid presents and its many restrictions.

"The home remains Covid-free and all the staff continue to work hard to maintain the health and wellbeing of the residents."

The calendar will be on sale from mid December, and will cost £10 for an A3 version and £8 for A4.
