CCTV footage has emerged appearing to show a man attempting to break into multiple cars.

At least one resident of Pembury Way in Rainham has had her purse stolen from her car and and others claim there have been more thefts over the past months.

One video, taken at 6.30am on Sunday, July 8, shows a man wearing dark glasses and a cap walking down the road, pulling at car door handles.

A second video shows the man actually entering a car and having a rummage around the front seats.

The Pembury Way resident, who obtained the video, has asked not to be named.

He said: "This fella had a very distinctive walk, and I do have a half decent shot of his face.

"He looked directly at my cameras, and then skipped trying the vehicles on my drive, and moved on to other cars in the street

"He tried every car door in the street, eventually finding a door unlocked and stealing whatever he could get his hands on inside.

"Ideally I’d quite like for nobody else to get robbed. It’s not a nice thing to deal with."

Kent Police spokesman James Walker said: "Police received a report that a purse was stolen from a car parked in Pembury Way at around 6.40am on Sunday, July, 8."

"The report has been filed, pending further information coming to light."
