Chatham Town form frustrates boss Kevin Watson

Kevin Watson wants his Chatham Town side to finish the season strongly after admitting his frustration at seeing his side take "one step forward and two back."

He was disappointed by Easter Monday’s 2-1 home defeat against Thamesmead in their only Ryman League Division 1 North, Kent derby of the season, failing to build on a good point at play-off contenders Grays 48 hours earlier.

They travel to Waltham Abbey on Saturday and player-manager Watson said: "We need to get a result there because at the moment we are taking one step forward and two back.

"We didn’t seem to have loads of desire and quality, after playing so well in the previous two games.

"It wasn’t a lack of effort but we were sloppy in possession, didn’t create that many chances and both goals were disappointing. They weren’t down to individual errors but two or three players could have done a bit more to prevent them."

Waltham Abbey are 17th in the table, Chatham winning 2-1 when the teams met back in September.

Watson said: "They played some good football when we played them earlier in the season."

Matt Newman pulled out during the warm-up against Thamesmead on Monday, with Potter a late replacement. Newman has been carrying a slight knee injury over the last few weeks.
