A man killed in a car crash in Chattenden on has been named as 50-year-old Vaughn Lambird.

Mr Lambird, from Gillingham, was in the car with his 15-year-old daughter and a friend when his black Nissan 200SX collided with a black Vauxhall Astra in Upchat Road on Friday, November 6.

An inquest was opened and adjourned today (Tuesday) and a post mortem carried out yesterday suggested Mr Lambird died of multiple injuries.
The two girls were taken to hospital but both had been released by Saturday, November 7.

Floral tributes have been left at the scene, including two bouquets believed to have been left by Mr Lambird's children.

A fire pump from Cliffe and two from Medway helped police, along with military personnel from the nearby Chattenden Barracks.

Firefighters used cutting equipment to free Mr Lambird and he was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital by land ambulance although the air ambulance was called to assist.

Police say Mr Lambird died shortly after the collision.

The driver of the Vauxhall, a 56-year-old man also from the Medway area, was taken to the same hospital with a suspected broken ankle.

Police closed the road at 3.30pm and reopened it at 8pm.

They have asked for anyone who saw the vehicles in the area prior to the incident, or witnessed the collision, to contact Kent Police's serious collision investigation unit on 01622 798538.
