A police investigation was launched after a child reported being concerned about a car seen near a primary school.

Officers were called to the Woodlands Road area on Saturday afternoon, just after 1pm, after the 999 call was made.

Reports on social media have suggested a man in a black car had tried to abduct a child.

However police say they have conducted an investigation and found no offence has taken place.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: “Kent Police was called on Saturday at 1.14pm after a child reported feeling concerned about a black car.

"Following an investigation it has been established that no offences have taken place and no attempted abduction occurred.”

The police helicopter was in the area on Saturday afternoon but it was a separate incident, related to a car which failed to stop for police.
