Conservatory destroyed by fire

A conservatory has been destroyed by a fire in the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters from Medway station were called to a house in Hoath Lane, Rainham, at about 2am by the homeowner after being woken by a "popping noise".

The fire, which is thought to have started at in the conservatory area, spread to the dining room, but the crew managed to stop the flames before they spread any further.

It is not known at this stage how the fire started, but crews spent more than two hours making sure the flames were out.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "The lady who lived there heard a popping noise which alerted her to the fire.

"The conservatory, a timber and plastic structure has been destroyed and the dining room has also suffered an amount of fire damage.

"There was no damage caused to the upstairs of the property."
