Rumours that Aldi will be moving into Gillingham Business Park have been backed up by a business website.

For a number of weeks gossip has been circulating that the budget supermarket will join other businesses on the park, off Ambley Road.

Last week business website BDaily issues a statement declaring the German giant would be moving in.

Aldi, Duncan Road, Gillingham

It read: “The supermarket have been included as a leaseholder for a brand new retail unit proposed for the Gillingham site. The area that will be redeveloped to make way for the Aldi supermarket and another empty unit is the previous address for Harveys Furniture.

“The Harveys Furniture store has been available to rent for a long period of time and due to it not being rented or alternatively, the existing unit not being for purpose, it will be demolished and redeveloped.”

Nobody from Aldi has responded to the Medway Messenger’s requests for information for the past three weeks and on Thursday Hannah Charlton from Weber Shandwick which manages their PR said: “Unfortunately there is no one available to comment on this situation at this moment.”

The management centre at the park also said they did not have the information on who, if any, prospective tenants on the site would be, or anything about plans for the Harveys Furniture store – which is still open.

Nobody from Harveys was available to speak to.
