Tesco confirms Covid case among staff member at Gillingham Express store

Several members of Tesco staff are self-isolating after a colleague tested positive for coronavirus.

The store in Sturdee Avenue in Gillingham remains open and the company has reassured customers it has a strict cleaning regime and safety measures in place.

The staff member has not been to work since receiving a positive test, it is understood.

Tesco has not revealed when the test result came through but assured customers it is adhering to public health guidance and following track and trace procedures.

The exact number of staff self-isolating has not been confirmed but the store remains open as normal.

A Tesco spokesman said: "A small number of colleagues at our Sturdee Express store are isolating after one of the team tested positive for Covid-19.

"The safety of our colleagues, customers and suppliers remains our number one priority and we are working with local public health authorities, following all government guidance and taking the relevant precautions.

"We have extensive measures across all of our stores to help keep everyone safe, including protective screens at every checkout, social distancing signage and regular cleaning."
