Firefighters called to St Thomas of Canterbury in Rainham

Firefighters were called after high winds damaged a church roof.

Crews were called to St Thomas of Canterbury on London Road in Rainham this afternoon.

An eye witness reported the road has been closed in both directions.

Kent Fire and rescue confirmed they were called to deal with an unsafe structure at 2.09pm.

Crews in two fire engines and a height vehicle worked with the technical rescue team to make the scene safe before leaving at 7.04pm.
