Firefighters were called to a fire in the kitchen of a house in Pump Lane, Rainham.

Two fire engines attended after being called just before 8.20pm last night and crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished a fire involving a gas boiler.

Gas engineers isolated the power supply, and an elderly occupant was passed in to the care of an ambulance crew.

Firefighters were on the scene for just over an hour.
