Emergency services called to reports vehicle had fallen in River Medway in Borstal

Emergency crews descended on a marina this afternoon after a report a vehicle had fallen into the water.

But when five fire vehicles, two ambulances and a police cars arrived at Medway Bridge Marina, in Manor Road, Borstal, they discovered it was a false alarm.

A welder who accidentally cut a hole in a boat he was working on dialled 999 as he was worried it would sink at high tide.

In total eight emergency vehicles were called (6242441)

Crews arrived at the scene at around 2pm but left soon after.

Police spokesman James Walker: "Kent Police received a report that a man on a boat at the Medway Bridge Marina in Borstal had come into difficulty at 2.06pm on Friday.

"Officers attended the scene alongside crews from Kent Fire and Rescue Service and it has been established that the man is safe."
