Flames from a bin fire spread to two sheds and destroyed some fencing last night.

Firefighters were called out to The Everglades in Hempstead shortly after 7pm and found the back garden sheds and fencing well alight.

It is understood no one was injured during the blaze and the fire had spread from a metal incinerator bin fire in a neighbour's garden which backed onto the property.

The sheds and fencing were completely destroyed.

Following the incident, crews issued some safety advice to homeowners thinking of having a bonfire.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said: "If anyone considering having a garden bonfire this spring to make sure they never leave it unattended and to monitor it at all times.

"An adult should supervise it until it has burnt out.

"If it has to be left, damp it down with water.

"Also to make sure the fire is located away from anything that is likely to catch fire from the radiated heat; like fences, sheds or overhanging trees."

Crews left the scene about 40 minutes after the fire started.
