Cyclist airlifted to hospital and man arrested after crash at Four Elms Hill, near Wainscott

A cyclist has been airlifted to hospital and a driver arrested following a serious crash.

An air ambulance was called to the junction near Four Elms Hill, Wainscott around 10am.

The cyclist was assessed and treated at the scene before being airlifted to King's College Hospital with "potentially serious injuries".

Ambulance crews were joined by the police who put in place a temporary road closure on the Chatham-bound carriageway.

A diversion is in place and motorists are advised to expect delays and, where possible, use an alternative route.

A 22-year-old man from Rochester has been arrested in connection with the incident.

He has since been released pending further enquiries.

A 24-year-old motorist who drove past the scene said: "There was at least eight officers filtering traffic through.

"The white car had a visible smash on the drivers side of the windscreen and it looked like it had hit someone.

"It's causing a lot of congestion at the roundabout."
