A keen artist is hoping to turn his hobby into paying work after he lost his job.

Walderslade resident Ron Williams had been on furlough for six months until he was informed his position was now redundant.

The 65-year-old had worked as a service advisor at WJ King Dacia car dealers in Dartford .

Bored of having too much time on his hands, he decided to brighten up the garden of his Walderslade Road home by painting an elephant on a fence panel.

The dad-of-two, who originates from Zimbabwe, says he has a "deep love" for the animals and comes from an artistic family.

He usually dabbles with watercolours on paper, but has been delighted with his latest project.

So much so, he posted photos on Facebook and has been contacted by several people keen for him to work on their panels.

He said: "I have been made redundant less than a year away from retirement. Finding work is very difficult at this advanced age, so I have been putting my artistic skills to work on fence panel art.

"It seems to be popular and may lead to bigger things."

He added: "I cannot sit still and just want to do stuff all the time, so I looked at the fence and thought I would give it a go. I can turn my hand to most things."

Mr Williams, who had worked in the motor trade for 45 years, is keen to discuss any commissions.

He charges between £300 and £400 and says the work can take up to four days.
