Fashionista Dame Zandra Rhodes is ditching the runway for the kitchen in this series of Celebrity MasterChef.

The Chatham born designer, and Chancellor Emerita, of the University for the Creative Arts, made it through her first heat on the long-running BBC series.

She will join track and Olympic medallist Greg Rutherford MBE, reality stars Vicky Pattison and Joey Essex, comedian Josie Long, and the British heavyweight boxer Dillian Whyte on this year’s line-up.

Before creating dishes on the show, Zandra shot to fame in the fashion industry during 1960s and 1970s.

She is best known for her pop art inspired prints and bright colours.

Zandra learnt her craft at the Rochester College of Design, now known as UCA Rochester in the late 1950s.

Her mother, Beatrice Rhodes, taught dressmaking at the college.

Focusing her studies on printed textiles, Zandra went on to win a scholarship to the Royal College of Art.

After completing her first Master Chef challenge Zandra said: “It could have looked better, but I survived the challenge.

“I would say that I am a bit of a messy cook, but when I’m in London, I’ll cook a dinner party for twelve people.”
