Detectives investigating an assault want to trace a motorist who was driving a black Ford Mondeo along Gillingham Road on New Year’s Day .

The appeal comes after two teenage girls, aged 15 and 17, reported to police that a man grabbed one of them and put his arms round her.

Neither was hurt during the incident which is said to have happened at about 8.20pm.

At about the same time a motorist stopped and asked the teenagers directions towards Gillingham Town Centre.

Officers believe he may have seen the offender.

They were keen to stress he is not connected to the allegation of assault.

A Gillingham man, aged 38, was arrested on Saturday, January 2 on suspicion of assault and has been bailed until Tuesday, February 2.

Anyone with information should call 01634 792525 or CrimeStoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
