Driver arrested after child hit by car in Samphire Way, St Mary's Island

A driver has been arrested and a child rushed to hospital after being hit by a car.

Officers detained a man in his 20s following the crash in Samphire Road, on St Mary's Island, on Wednesday night.

The child was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries which are not life-threatening.

A man who was driving the car was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink-driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He has been bailed until March 21 while inquiries continue.

Residents said they saw several blue emergency lights in the area at around 7.20pm.
