Drink driving arrest as woman taken to hospital following crash at Witham Way, Strood

A man has been arrested and a woman taken to hospital after a serious two-car collision.
The emergency services were called to Witham Way, Strood at around 2.30pm following reports of a crash between two vehicles.
Officers attended alongside a crew from Kent Fire and Rescue Service and the air ambulance who arrived to find all people outside their vehicles.
A woman was assessed and treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Medway Maritime Hospital by road.
A second driver, a 35-year-old man from Chatham was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving while over the legal alcohol limit.
He has been escorted by officers to a local hospital before being taken into custody.
A resident, who did not want to be named said: “I heard a very, very loud bang and what sounded like a child screaming”, adding his initial fears were “oh no, a little kid has been hit by a car”.
“I came out and there was a gentleman in the car with a woman,” he said.
“As I came out he was taking her out of the car and got her to the side of the road. I rushed over and put her in the recovery position.
“We tried to talk to her and keep her conscious.”
The man who was arrested was later released pending further investigation.
