Two fire engines from Strood and Medway fire stations, along with police and paramedics were sent to the scene about a mile from the Bridgewood roundabout and firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to take the roof off the vehicle to free the driver from his Ford car.

The man, who is in his 50s, was conscious when he was taken to hospital by ambulance crews.

No other vehicles were involved in the smash and the car is believed to have left the carriageway and hit the barrier.

Firefighters made the scene safe and left shortly before 9pm.
