A driver accused of causing the death a motorcyclist at Blue Blue Bell Hill could face a retrial after a jury failed to reach verdicts.

Virginia Pereira denied causing death by dangerous driving and an alternative charge of causing death by careless driving.

Michael Sharp, 57, of Chatham, was fatally injured after his 1000cc Honda crashed with 62-year-old Pereira’s Vauxhall Corsa on the A229 near the Lower Bell pub on July 28 2011.

The married victim, (pictured right) who had been travelling to Aylesford to pay a cheque into his bank, suffered multiple injuries and died at the scene.

Judge David Griffith-Jones QC gave the prosecution until February 25 to decide whether there should be a retrial.

Pereira, of Portland Street, Chatham, who was aided by a Portuguese interpreter during the trial at Maidstone Crown Court, had her unconditional bail continued.
