Elderly man hit by car in Strood

An elderly man was taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Strood town centre.

The pedestrian in his seventies, was struck at the junction of the High Street and North Street just before 3pm on Thursday.

The victim was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham suffering from head injuries. He had to under-go x-rays but his condition was not life-threatening.

A witness said police cordoned off the road and several vehicles were stopped at the scene including a bus and a car with a shattered windscreen. The road re-opened just after 4pm.

A police spokesman said the accident is not being investigated.
