Police, fire and paramedics are involved in an exercise at Medway Power Station today.

Scottish & Southern Energy who own the plant on the Isle of Grain will be testing their emergency procedures with Kent Police, Kent Fire and Rescue Service and the South East Coast Ambulance Service.

SSE's emergency command team will practice their response alongside the emergency services and will test links and procedures with the company's headquarters in Perth.

A spokesman for SSE said: "The staff don't get told what the scenario will be beforehand so they cannot prepare in any way. It could be anything from a fire to a bomb threat."

The exercise, part of the site's normal emergency response training programme which runs throughout the year, will last around two hours.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service will be sending four appliances to the scene to take part in the exercise, which began at 10am.
