Person dies after being hit by train between Gravesend and Strood

A person has died after being hit by a train.

Emergency services were called to an incident between Gravesend and Strood at around 12.30pm.

All services between Gravesend and Rainham were cancelled while crews attended to the scene.

Trains are now running between Gravesend and Strood following the earlier emergency response.

A spokesman from British Transport Police said:"Officers were called to the line near Gravesend at 12.21pm today (22 March) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

Southeastern had said power would be restored to the track and trains would begin to move soon but there will be significant delays and additional alterations as it works to get the service back on time.
