Firefighters were called to Cuxton tip after a car caught alight.

One fire engine was sent to the scene in Sundridge Hill, where a car was said to be "well alight" at around 11.23am this morning.

The blaze was quickly brought under control but Medway Council was forced to close the waste and recycling centre for the rest of the day.

The council's environmental team said people with bookings at the tip would be diverted to the Capstone centre in Chatham or Hoath Way in Gillingham.
