Fire crews from Medway and Strood called to a fire in a cell at Cookham Wood Prison HMYOI this afternoon.

Fire crews were called to a prison after a fire broke out in one of the cells.

Firefighters from Strood and Medway went to Cookham Wood Prison HMYOI in Sir Evelyn Road, Rochester, at 12.37pm this afternoon.

Cookham Wood Young Offenders Institution

The fire was said to be small and was put out within 15 minutes.

South East Coast Ambulance crews were also in attendance and a man was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene and cared for thereafter by prison staff.
