Rush hour traffic ground to a halt on roads in and around the Medway City Estate after a fire in a field off Anthony’s Way in Strood today.

Fire fighters from Strood’s red watch blocked one lane of the A289 with a pump to help deal with the 150sq ft blaze.

A spokesman for the Kent fire and rescue service said it was unclear how the blaze had started.

Two pumps were called to the scene at 3.20pm and left after about 45 minutes.

There were no injuries or damage to surrounding property.
