A block of flats was evacuated as a blaze spread across the building in the early hours of this morning.

Kent Fire and Rescue said the fire began when a motorcycle caught alight outside the Japonica House in Humber Crescent, Strood, and the fire spread to the building.

The blaze then spread externally over two floors of the block via balconies - prompting firefighters to evacuate the flats.

They extinguished the fire with a hose reel and there was no lasting internal damage to the building.

Crews were called just before 3am and had the blaze under control by 3.20am.
