A pub lost to Covid restrictions could be transformed into a health centre.

City Way Osteopath Limited has put forward plans to open a premises in The Windmill on the Ratcliffe Highway in Hoo.

The Rochester-based company would like to see the building converted into a osteopath clinic also featuring a pilates studio and a business centre on the first floor which would include five offices for "start-up and developing small businesses".

The applicant, which has a clinic in New Road, has planned for six treatment rooms on the ground floor as well as a studio offering three exercise classes a day. It is also proposing 40 parking spaces.

According to documents submitted to Medway Council, the pub – which included a children's playground – ceased trading in March 2020 having closed due to lockdown; the building was constructed in 1966.

The current owners, who took over in 2014, established it as a wedding and private events venue and there were also plans to convert some of the building into a B&B, however, these never materialised.

The owners also appointed local chef Kellie Cresswell, who once competed in the TV show Hell's Kitchen.

A planning statement reads: "The current owners of The Windmill have continually looked to evolve and diversify the offering of the business, in an attempt to achieve a profitable and sustainable business.

"Unfortunately, despite substantial investment both in terms of time and financial support, these ventures have not delivered their objectives."

The council are due to determine the plans by Monday, January 10.
