A gardening enthusiast has raised more than £700 for charity by opening her garden to the public.
June Ostrehan, of Lordswood Lane, Chatham, decided to show off her garden after hearing a radio appeal for volunteers to help raise money for the Ellenor Lions Hospice, in Northfleet.
She said: “I thought it was a brilliant idea and a great way to raise money. I didn’t think it would happen because my garden is quite small but I contacted them anyway and they said it was perfect.”
After almost a year of organising it was finally ready.
Money was raised through an entrance fee, refreshments, a raffle, donations and the sale of plants.
Joy Blunderfield, a community fundraising manager for the hospice, said: “Lordswood Lane was our last garden of the season and we are very grateful to June. It was a beautiful day. A big thank you to all those who attended on the day and we would also like to thank our volunteers and other garden owners who were kind enough to open up their gardens over the 2009 season.”
