When admin assistant Kate Payne created a tongue-in-cheek make-up tutorial, she never expected the huge interest it would create.

But just a week after the Medway Messenger reported on her YouTube creation becoming an online hit, the video has attracted almost 77,000 views and Kate has been contacted by a television director in Germany.

The spoof nine-minute film, shot in Kate’s bedroom at her home in Beechings Way, Twydall, teaches girls how to get ready for a night out in Medway.

Advice includes not taking a shower, keep your hair as dry and big as possible and caking on the fake tan.

Kate, 20, said: “I did it because my friends who live in Medway would find it funny. I never expected it to go so far. It’s been surreal.”

Usually Kate only shares her YouTube videos with her friends on Facebook. But when this one proved popular among her friends, she decided to make it public.

Kate Payne's YouTube tutorial

Since appearing in the Medway Messenger, the video has been on websites all over the world and featured in the Daily Mail newspaper.

She said: “I started making YouTube videos about a year ago. I was going through a bit of a rough time and I used to watch other people’s videos on YouTube which used to cheer me up so I decided to do the same.

“It means a lot to me that so many people have taken the time to watch my video, like it or comment on it. And I’m glad I have made people smile.”

She added: “I’ve been contacted by a TV director in Germany which could have potential but it would be a dream if it led to a job over here.”

In her latest video: ‘How to bag a bird’ Kate posed reading a copy of the Medway Messenger and she has also posted a video thanking people for watching her clips.

She has already got another video up her sleeve but is keeping tight-lipped about it.

She said: “All I can say is that it is about daytime TV.”
