A barn filled with hay near a golf club has been destroyed in a mysterious fire.

Firefighters spent about three hours tackling the blaze, near Rochester and Cobham Park Golf Club, off Park Pale close to the A2.

Crews from Thames-side, Strood and Larkfield were called at 10.30pm on Tuesday.

There were no animals in the barn, but fencing was damaged by fire - allowing some goats to escape from a nearby field.

A caravan also suffered extensive damage along with a number of trees.

A firefighter at Strood station said: “We were at the scene for quite some time because of how much hay was inside the building, but at the moment have no idea how it started.”

The crews from all three stations left the scene at about 1.30am.
