A major cleaning, inspection and repairs programme for Rochester's historic river embankments has started.

A team of specialists is currently washing off and inspecting river walls on the Strood embankment of the River Medway.

The team, and their work platform on a telescopic arm, will move to the Rochester side of the river for approximately two weeks from next Monday.

More than 500 square metres of Grade 2 listed masonry alongside the River Medway are being inspected and repaired upstream of Rochester Old Bridge.

On the Rochester-side of the river there will be temporary closures of a section of the footway at Rochester Esplanade. Some Esplanade riverside parking bays will be inaccessible, or suspended as required, during the works.

The work is being carried out on behalf of The Rochester Bridge Trust, which owns and manages Rochester Bridge.
