HMS CHATHAM

It took more than six hours for HMS Chatham to moor after she arrived in her adopted home town on Tuesday.

The warship was due to berth in Basin 2 at Chatham Maritime for a visit marking the 20th anniversary of its commissioning.

But high tides and low water at her berth conspired to delay the six-day visit. The crossing of Chatham Docks began at 1pm, but it was not until 7.30pm that the gangways were finally connected. The ship will stay until Monday afternoon.

During her visit, the crew will take part in a number of activities including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day services in the Historic Dockyard, the Great Lines and Rochester Cathedral.

On Saturday, from 9.30am until 5pm. the ship will be open for the public to go on board (there is no charge), view the ship, and meet the crew.

The Medway Sea Cadets will be providing lively displays during the day on the ship and at the Dockside Outlet Centre.
