Chatham house prices rise by more than 17%, according to Halifax

Chatham has been identified as one of the top-performing town across the UK for house price growth over the last year.

Property values there jumped by 17.1% over 2016, according to Halifax and the average house price is now £237, 545.

Prices in Chathan surged at more than double the 7.5% annual growth seen across the UK generally.

The 10 areas with the highest house price rises over the last year were all in London or the South East of England.

Ahead of Chatham was Luton, Barking and Dagenham, Dunstable, and Basildon.

Those with the weakest house price growth in 2016 included Aberdeen in Scotland, Bangor in Northern Ireland and Blackpool.
