Sailor rescued from Medway Estuary after falling ill

A sailor was rescued from the River Medway this morning, after he fell ill.

The Sheerness inshore lifeboat was launched at 7am after a call from the coastguard.

A middle aged man had become ill on his 22ft craft, White Dove, in the Medway Estuary.

The lifeboat crew located the vessel near the Kingsnorth jetty and the man was found to be dehydrated.

Both the man and his were taken to the Strand, where paramedics were waiting.

The lifeboat returned to station just after 9am.
