An inquest has opened into the death of a Medway doctor who died after being crushed by a campervan in Spain.

Thu Anh Shum of Barncroft Drive, Hempstead, was on holiday last month in Granada with husband Dr Chau Ming Shum – also a doctor who works at Walderslade Village Surgery – when their campervan rolled down a ramp, injuring both of them on November 13.

The inquest opening at County Hall, Maidstone, heard Thu Anh died from her injuries, which were recorded as a brain injury, skull fracture and crushing injuries.

Coroner Bina Patel, area coroner for Mid Kent and Medway, also recorded that 53-year-old Dr Shum had been born on April 25, 1968, in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Miss Patel offered her condolences to the family and friends of Dr Shum, and the inquest was adjourned to April 26 next year at County Hall. It was said to be a provisional date subject to witnesses being available.

Dr Chau Ming Shum remains in a serious condition in hospital in Granada.
