Inquest into death of Alan McWhinnie on A2 in Sittingbourne

An inquest into the death of a father from Medway who was killed on the A2 has been opened.

Alan McWhinnie died on February 9, in Bapchild, just outside Sittingbourne.

Coroner Kate Thomas heard witnesses had seen Mr McWhinnie sit down in the road where he was then struck by a car.

He was 40, single and living in Rochester.

His body was identified by his sister, Claire Golding. A post mortem determined that he had died from multiple injuries.

After his death, his sister paid tribute and described him as being "cheeky, loveable and always positive".

The father-of-two had been in Sittingbourne enjoying his first night out after serving four years in prison.

The inquest, held at Archbishop's Palace in Maidstone, was adjourned until May 1.
