A man accused of attacking his niece with a saw has appeared in court with an arm in plaster.

James Tevlin, 57, is alleged to have assaulted Rachel Kingaby, causing her actual bodily harm, at her home in Parr Avenue, Gillingham.

It was reported at the time that Miss Kingaby, 29, suffered a wound to her finger, as well as bruising and swelling, and needed hospital treatment.

Tevlin, of Balmoral Road, Gillingham, made his first appearance at Maidstone Crown Court via a prison video link over the alleged attack on July 16.

It is not known how he injured his arm.

Tevlin, who is also charged with breaching a non-molestation order, was remanded in custody by Judge Michael Carroll until a plea and case management hearing on October 23.
